ORTA S. GIULIO, 24 giugno 2011 – Gabor Lesko è un vero ‘animale da palcoscenico’, persino quando il palco in questione non è che un gradino.
Meglio spiegare: questo evento di Un Paese a Sei Corde è stato inserito all’interno di un programma di iniziative per tutta l’estate di Orta S. Giulio, che ha come fulcro la mostra sul Canaletto presso il Palazzo Penotti Ubertini. Di qui la necessità di collocare il concerto in prossimità del suo ingresso e cioè a metà della scenografica Salita della Motta, con i suoi gradoni di pietra. E se per Gabor la cosa non ha costituito un grosso problema – a patto di non muoversi troppo – per il pubblico la posizione era alquanto bizzarra, con le sedie disposte in discesa, quasi fossero sul ponte di un ipotetico Titanic. Ma un concerto di Gabor Lesko vale qualsiasi disagio e l’effetto teatrale della Parrocchiale di S. Maria Assunta, alle sue spalle, era davvero spettacolare. Dopo qualche brano c’era gente ovunque, anche seduta per terra, anche chi se ne stava poco prima a passeggiare nella sottostante piazzetta in riva al lago. Persino un gatto che stava attraversando mollemente sullo sfondo, alle prime note si è fermato ad ascoltare per un po’. E Gabor si è divertito a divertire il suo pubblico, coinvolgendolo con le sue esplosioni di entusiasmo di bambino, che mostra agli amici il suo nuovo giocattolo. Solo che il suo gioco è suonare la chitarra, con grande talento e professionalità, e gli amici, anche quelli nuovi conquistati questa sera, non han potuto far altro che applaudire incantati. Quando poi ha cominciato a cantare, la sua voce, morbida e fresca, ha fatto il resto. Alternando brani originali, come “Knocking at Sunset”, “Share the World”, “Celai”, a suoi arrangiamenti molto simpatici, come quello di “Georgia on My Mind” dal finale stile ‘vecchio blues’, ha portato avanti la serata facendosi guidare dalle reazioni del pubblico. Ha voluto condividere con tutti la sua musica, il suo mondo, come del resto vuole la filosofia del suo ultimo CD, Share the World. Un po’ di elettronica, ma non troppa, a sostenere le sue esecuzioni con qualche effetto e tanta, tanta disarmante simpatia. Questi gli ingredienti che, miscelati alla bravura di chi ha studiato parecchio e con i migliori maestri, hanno inchiodato il pubblico fino alla fine di questo concerto un po’ particolare, dalla location un po’ sbilenca, ma davvero magnifica. Persino quando Gabor ha presentato alcuni semplici brani che saranno inseriti in un suo prossimo metodo per lo studio del fingerstyle! E allora in quest’atmosfera c’è stata anche la voglia di testare un nuovo brano, “Take a Right to Your Life”, vedere come sarebbe andata, se le nuove tecniche sperimentate sarebbero piaciute e, a giudicare dagli applausi, la prova è stata decisamente superata.
Sì lo possiamo dire: è stato davvero importante poter condividere la musica di Gabor Lesko.

ORTA S. GIULIO, 24th June 2011 – Gabor Lesko is a true ‘animal on stage’, even when the stage in question isn’t more than a step.
I’d better explain. This concert, that’s part of ‘Un Paese a Sei Corde’, was included within a programme of events organised for the duration of the summer in Orta S. Giulio, that had the Canaletto Exhibition at the Penotti Ubertini Palace as its centre. And hence the need to situate the concert in the vicinity of its entrance, and this became half way up the scenographic Motta Slope with its stone steps. And if for Gabor this didn’t cause any particular problems – as long as he didn’t move around too much – for the public the position was quite bizarre, with their chairs arranged down the slope almost as if it was the bridge of a hypothetical Titanic. But a concert by Gabor Lesko is worth any inconvenience and the theatrical effect of St. Maria Assunta’s Church at his shoulders was truly spectacular. After a few tunes, there were people everywhere, even sitting on the ground, and those who had been walking in the nearby little square bordering the lake had also joined us. Even a cat that had been passing by languidly in the background, at the sound of the first notes stopped and listened for a while. And Gabor had fun entertaining his public, gathering them up with his explosive enthusiasm, like that of a child showing his friends a new toy. Only that this toy was playing the guitar with great talent and professionalism, and his friends – including those new ones he won over that evening – could do nothing else but applaud enchanted. Then when he began to sing, his voice that was soft and fresh did the rest. Alternating original pieces such as “Knocking at Sunset”, “Share the World”, “Celai”, with his really nice arrangements such as that of “Georgia on My Mind” with its old-style blues finale, he led the evening on allowing himself to be guided by the public’s reactions. He wanted to share his music with everyone, in line with the philosophy of his most recent CD Share the World. A bit of electronics but not too much, just enough to support his performances with a couple of effects, and his disarming friendliness did the rest. These are the ingredients that, mixed with the bravura of one who has studied an awful lot and with the best teachers, glued the public to their seats right up to the end of this unusual concert, owing to its slightly lopsided but truly magnificent location. Even when Gabor presented a few simple pieces that will be included in his new handbook for studying fingerstyle! And so this atmosphere also created the desire to try out a new piece, “Take a Right to Your Life”, to see how it would go down and if his new experimented techniques would please the public. To judge from the applause – the test was decisively successful!
If we can say it, it’s been really important to be able to share Gabor Lesko’s music.
